Is your network reachable?
NOT YET
Are you using a port-forward?
I have a US robotics router(not sure of model) and could not figure out how to do a port foward via portfoward.com
Is your console being detected?
No. (xbox)
Brief description of your network setup:
Cable modem, into a router, split to xbox and computer.
Do you use a software firewall? What brand? Have you made any changes to it?
yes, one provided by Norton Antivirus 2004, I have made no changes. May have one from XP installed as well.
Operating System?
XP Media Center 2004(sp2 installed)
Problem description?
My console isn't being detected thus I am not able to find games via System Link. My network is NOT YET reachable. it becomes reached after entering the arena, but my console has yet to be detected.

Seek your router's documentation or manufacturer's website on port-forwarding information. A little googling with your specific router model should hopefully turn up how to actually do the port forward.
Even though this may not be the *EXACT* model you have, I'm sure it's quite similar.
http://www.portforward.com/usr/8054-portforwarding.htm
These are the models which have instructions on port-forward.com
USR8000
USR8000A
USR8000A-02
USR8000A-03
USR8003
USR8011
USR8022
USR8054
SureConnect 9106
SureConnect 9106 V2
Now if yours isn't one of those, don't worry, just load one up. I'm sure it's almost the same if not exactly the same. |

Scrap what I just wrote.

That's correct. You must intiate some traffic by *at least* switching into arena mode. This will help Kai determine if your network is reachable or not. So your problem is nothing to do with port-forwarding, as your network IS reachable. This is more a case of the XBox not being detected, and I smell Norton being at fault here.
You say you've got Norton Anti-Virus 2004, but anti-virus has nothing to do with a firewall. I assume you are talking abotu Norton Internet Security 2004, and part of that is the firewall, and another part of it is the antivirus. I for one know that it always comes up with that stupid pop-up asking to allow Kai. Norton's products are a piece of shit (excuse the wording). Just disable whatever 'security' features Norton claims it has. Turn on the SP2 firewall.
Just also noticed you're using MCE (nice ).
Also, make sure your console is 'searching for games'. |

I am not very computer smart, I can do the basics. My dad has made it so I cannot download or change important settings. How do I turn on the SP2 firewall? Will this allow my console to be detected? |

You want to turn SP2 firewall "off". Just right click on My Network places, hit properties. Then right click on your internet connection and go to properties. Then at the top you will see an advance tab. Click that and it will say "Windows Firewall". Click the settings and turn that puppy off |

What one? If it is "My Network Places" you might have to add it to your view. Right click on the Taskbar and then Properties. The click on Start Menu on the top, then customize. Now on the top click the "advance" tab and scroll down on the window until you find a check box for "My Network Places". Check that, and then close and it will be added to your Start bar. |

Talk to your dad. Even point him here if you want, so that he can see you're not trying to make yourself vulnerable to attacks and there's a legitimate reason for it. |

That’s kewl, keep us updated as much as possible. Also go back up to the top once admin and start all over with my instructions on turning the firewall off. If by doing so you are able to connect we will try and turn it back on and allow traffic from Xlink Kai and see if that works for you. |

Games that are already underway will not appear on your screen, unless
a. the game allows users to join at anytime (Unreal Championship, Halo 2)
b. the host of the game sets his Kai arena status to HOSTING
As for the lost connection, it's still a firewall issue. Just so we're clear, what's the status of firewalls running on the PC? |

I have PAL-Australia Halo, so it's not going to help you much. I have other titles, but I'm rather pre-occupied atm. Maybe one of the other mods will be able to assist you (it's time for me to sleep).. |
