hi guys..
i'm trying to join a game through xlink kai through my xbox but without any success...
Is your network reachable?
Yes
Are you using a port-forward?
Yes, port 3074
Is your console being detected?
Yes it does
Brief description of your network setup:
I'm using WinXp Pro with SP2.
To this i have a SMC7004VBR router which is connected to my 2 PC's and the Xbox with RJ-54 Cat5 patch cables.
Do you use a software firewall? What brand? Have you made any changes to it?
Using Bitdefender Pro Edit v7.2 - Yes, firewall disabled.
Operating System?
WinXP with SP2
Problem description?
when i connect my xlinx kai in my xbox i see all the ppl but i can't join..
game starts and all i get in the multiplayer mode is 1 player option...
i don't know how it goes from here... but
shouldn't there be a second player choise too..??
shouldn't there be some kind of a note saying i'm joining a game..??
connections between computer and xbox is made and all works well
except...
when i'm trying to host a game and when someone is trying to join it, it just don't work...
i'm trying to play some top spin tennis but the second player cannot be initiated...
i feel i'm close to solve this config nightmare...
i only need a little kick in the right direction
thx for any help... |

You *cannot* disable that firewall. Disabling the firewall will *NOT* let traffic run on the ports you require. It will just keep them blocked, and shutdown.
You need to leave BitDefender open, and configure it so that
IP 0.0.0.1 has complete inbound adn outbound access on Port 3074 UDP. How you do that in BitDefender I don't know, but have a look around and use their documentation. |

now i changed my settings in BitDefender... which informs me in xlink kai that my 'microsoft xbox, configured successfully'
but... i'm still not able to reach ppl to play with...
everytime i'm trying to join a game, the game is not found...
i've tryed splinter cell - pandoras tomorrow and top spin..
without success...
i was only thinking about another thing here...
does it matter if i have a chip in my machine..
because it's chipped with a alladin advanced something...
thx... |

That should not be a problem. Are you online now by chance? |

i'm still fiddling with this kai thing and it's getting pretty annoying now...
now i even closed windows firewall + i added a pass through the DMZ in the router for the box instead of closing the firewall completely...
i see ppl in my box in xlink kai but when i start the game there's no sign of any ppl in the arenas/games not even after a refresh or reboot..
what the heck could be wrong now..??? |

change the port forward to use port 30000 UDP then do the same in kaiconfig
also allow that port in your firewall |

Uninstall BitDefender then
I'm not a fan of installing trial firewall software everytime someone uses a new firewall and wants instructions, but just play around somewhere. It took me about 30 seconds to work it out in Sygate. |

yes, what happend...
well i uninstalled bitdefender and changed the port in the router to 30000 udp and the same in kai config...
right after that, when i tested the xbox i noticed that i've lost all the ppl in the xbox status window now instead, the one window before connecting to any game...
so i thought maybe i need to restart my computer to apply settings, so so i did with the result of no internet connection for nearly 2 hours before i could sort that thing out...
anyway..
where am i now..
i changed kaiport back to 0 + i removed all port forwardings that had to do with 30000
and every time when i'm fireing up xlink kai now, it won't respond... it's just trying to connect i guess, with text saying.. 'Xlink Kai Requerying mesh'.. nothing more..
now i've tryed to reinstall xlink kai... unfortunally without any success...
hmm...
this is becoming horrible now... |

lol I'm using zonealarm, with ics + crossover cable to xbox, and everything works fine, xbox detected, network reachable Some firewalls are more restrictive than others...
This is why I hate routers etc, port forwarding etc etc, although easy its easier still to just plug in and enable ICS.... |

naa routers are easyer than ICS
Try downloading kai again and uninstalling & deleting any left over files/folders then reinstall kai. |

yes i'm back... a bit irritated.. since i was that close...
and thx for your advise... i uninstalled everything with xlink kai and reinstalled it + my bitdefender again...
which i by the way feel uncomfortable to be without... everything works fine together now... thank god..
now my pc system feels a little bit more stable then before...
so... back to square one then except that i have no contact with the box anymore...
i guess i'll figure out this one by myself... sooner or later...
and as for the ics... well, it's up to each and everyone what size of crack they want to have open for all kinds of jerms out here in the cyberspace...
don't you think..
(i'll keep posting here until my problem is solved - to help others with the same problem that can't be solved by expertise)
thx... |

Im still going to stick by the statement that the built in firewall for SP2 is all you need.
Other than that all i recomend is a router.
You have both so have no need for an additional software firewall that just makes computers run like crap and keep you from having fun.
but for your prob well run this down 1 more time.
Quote: |
Router Settings.
Port forward port 30000 to the IP of the PC running kai
Firewall settings.
Allow all ports from IP 0.0.0.1
Allow all connections to port 3074 UDP
Allow all connections to port 30000 UDP
KaiConfig settings.
Kai port 30000
Pat Off
|
If that doesnt work... well i guess i can install Bitdefender this weekend and see if it just needs to be added to the WILL NOT WORK WITH KAI list.
Like raf said. Why not try Sygate? it's a proven firewall and still allows kai to work. |

Hi...
no progress what so ever with uninstalling my BitDefender firewall software... so i put it back again...
and since my brother is using the same firewall as i do, and he got no problem to play via Kai, why wouldn't it work for me...
i've drawn the conclusion that the biggest problem lies in my router
and not in my xbox <-> PC since everything works fine in my lan
my router, a SMC7004VBR i can't figure out so i'll just upload a huge collection of images of my settings in it for you guys to view...
if you can find anything wrong there i'd be very happy...
my xbox settings are:
[Network]
SetupNetwork = Yes
StaticIP = Yes
Ip = 192.168.2.106
Subnetmask = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway = 192.168.2.1
DNS1 = 0.0.0.0
DNS2 = 0.0.0.0
SkipIfNoLink = No
SetupDelay = 10

Yup sounds like the problem lies in the router as well.
I know bitdefender has no issues with kai.
*EDIT*
11 days since last post, assuming problem is solved
