You are walking down a trail, deep in the woods. You run into two magically talking doors. You have no other way around for these doors are at the edge of a cliff leading down to sharp jagged rocks. One door ALWAYS tells the truth, the other ALWAYS tells a lie. The catch is, you don't know which door is the lying one and which one will tell you the truth to freedom. You have only one question to ask before the doors lock and there will never be a way around them. What is the question that will get you through the doors?

Update:: Also, forgot to mention, if the question isn't related to freedom or the doors in anyway, they will permanently lock.

1. You only have ONE question.
2. You ask which ever door you please.
3. One will give you an answer to the correct question that will lead you to opening the door you think is to freedom.
4. don't think the truth door is the one with safety, the lying door can have safety behind it.

Pick a door and ask, "If I were to ask the other door which of you is the way to freedom, what would it answer?" Then go through the opposite door of that answer.

P that is a nice solution but rule number four plays a key part

4. don't think the truth door is the one with safety, the lying door can have safety behind it.

Ask door A what door B would answer if it were asked the question:
"Is door A telling the truth?"

If door A answers yes, you know it is telling a lie.
If door A answers no, you know it is telling the truth.

If door A says yes it simply cannot be telling the truth, due to the fact that only the door that tells the truth does that. And if door A says that door B would be telling the truth about door A... it's telling a lie.

The question is worded in such a way as to ensure either the truthful or the lying door always respond with the wrong answer. The truthful door will respond with the lying door's lie. The lying door will respond with a lie about the truthful door's answer. Since both will respond with a lie, you simply choose the opposite door from the answer you are given.

The trick to this classic puzzle is that your question must seek a lie and not the truth.

A matter of paraphrasing i'd say Prestige. Make sure you write down a clear example and analyse the outcome. Oh wait... check my previous reply in this thread, that will do the trick Twisted Evil

Haha, leave it to MeanMF to come up with a fitting picture.

Not sure I follow 2c, I was responding to -|iTs|-Ricochet who mentioned I may have overlooked one of the puzzle's variables in my previous answer.

To make the point clearer, perhaps you could provide a binary logic gate diagram. Wink
