WHO Raises alert to level (phase) 4
Phase 1: No viruses circulating among animals causing infections in humans
Phase 2: Animal influenza virus causes infection in humans, and is considered potential pandemic threat
Phase 3: Influenza causes sporadic cases in people, but no significant human-to-human transmission
Phase 4: Verified human-to-human transmission able to cause community-level outbreaks. Significant increase in risk of a pandemic
Phase 5: Human-to-human transmission in at least two countries. Strong signal pandemic imminent
Phase 6: Virus spreads to another country in a different region. Global pandemic under way |

Thanks for the WHO alert explanation Duke, I wondered what that was all about.
From the little that I've gathered, it seems this new great evil is just a plain old nasty flu. People die of the flu all the time. Children, elderly and those with weaken immune systems are especially susceptible. Still, this is not like MRSA. Antibiotics are prescribed and people recover from this like any other flu. Of the few confirmed cases here in Canada, only a couple of people are hospitalized and most are simply recovering at home.
Am I misunderstanding the severity of this latest outbreak?

Ah, you to huh? I was reading the symptoms of it and I thought, "geez, sounds like a normal case of the flu to me." |

Bad flu epidemics can hit young adults hardest because they provoke their powerful immune systems into overreaction, so to stay healthy spend the next few weeks drunk and sleep-deprived to keep yours suppressed. |

The H1N1 virus is 4 parts. 2 parts swine flu, 1 part bird flu, 1 part human flu.
If what im reading and been told (bbc news) the tamiflu only kills off the human part. It would be up to your body`s defences to kill the rest. |

Both my inlaws contracted it last year and were hospitalized for months. Very nasty stuff. Glad you pulled through.

i think it is just like a normal flu, maybe a little bit worse...
I guess just the regular things have to be done, when you got any kind of flu:
stay in bed, stay warm! Thats it... i guess :S ^^ |
