Hi,

I have read all the necessary stickies and FAQs and every little pictured walk-through there is on this site and countless others.

They have all been clear, extremely informative and in the process..
I've learned how to be patient.

So, my problem is.. I'm just not tech savvy enough.

Here is the 1 important sticky:
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22057

Here is the most important header:
"You CANNOT play PSP on XLink Kai using a WIFI router"

Now, Here is the stupid question:
Is the AirPort Extreme a WiFi router?

I believe it is. I just want to confirm when I should give up.
http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/

..

I am trying to connect my white macbook to my psp through a "dedicated" wifi adapter.
Then port-mapping my AirPort to 30000, blablabla. However, Since I am using a wifi router;
my dedicated wifi adapter "Belkin F5D7050" will only take me so far.

Picture:
[interweb] -> [AirPort Extreme] -> [WhiteBook] <- [dedicated Wifi adapter] <- PSP.
It's that simple right? no? The arrows don't really mean anything.

I've followed all the instructions here:
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34952
and all was good. Yet, I was never "reachable".

I have all the necessary doodads and gadgets and will be ordering the GW-US54Mini2W to replace the approved working adapter i already own.
I'm just taking every chance I have to reduce errors. Buying the connector is a small price to pay.

I have found a discussion that might be helpful to other mac users who need help port-mapping (same as port-forwarding?) and don't have UPnP.
I assume I do not but the instructions on how to forward were clear and easy. I didn't mind setting it up anyway.

However, I would like someone to confirm these instructions. They were the same as the ones found in the forums but I felt they were the most helpful.

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=899163

compared to

http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-Mac10.4.htm

I keep reading I should contact my ISP for my DNS but is that necessary?
I found my DNS address in one of the boxes already filled out in the settings. They were
automatically put in. Can I assume they are the same as the ones my ISP
will provide me?

Thanks again. I realize how elementary these questions seem to be so I'll
try my best not to make something small so complex.

EDIT: "The search button is your friend."
I have the Belkin F5D7050B
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36671
that I am using for my white macbook. Those instructions are for windows but I would like to use it for Mac. I found drivers for it that are mac compatible.

After I set up my port-mapping.. Is it as simple as what (-TU-)CrunchBite says?

You need to connect your computer to the router by a cable. Xbox game data has trouble going over wifi. Once you plug the pc in to the router it will work instantly.

I just need confirmation on my port-mapping/forwarding instructions and find an Ethernet cable. Essentially, I think that's really all I ever needed.

Just to be clear, that means you can't connect the psp to the router and expect it to work, but your computer can use the router wifi as it's source of internet.

Yes.

That setup will work (assuming your dedicated adapter supports promiscuous mode)

Which means you need to forward port 30000 UDP through your router firewall (and the firewall on your mac if needed) to your mac.

Better safe than sorry, and an extra adapter is always nice. Smile

They both look correct to me.

The settings that are already there should be fine.

It seems like all you need to do is use the drivers with "PSP XLink mode" and select the adapter in the kai configuration.

You don't need to wire your mac to your router, if you have 2 wireless adapters you should be fine. What I said there only applies to the xbox & xbox 360 consoles.

Good luck! Very Happy

Thanks for the quick reply, CrunchBite!

Unfortunately, Nothing has worked yet.

I think if I wrote down the "work-list" that I went through to get to where I am; it might help other Mac users and the support people to recognize my problem.
All I wanted was to play a little outdated MHF1 with some strangers but now
it's getting personal.

What I have:
AirPort Extreme Base Station [AEBS] (WiFi Router)
Belkin 802.11g F5D7050B (WiFi Adapter)
the White MacBook
PSP

Beginning
Basic things all covered. Router updated/Adapter drivers installed

Web Utility works. All the right boxes are enabled. No problems, No confusion. It's recognized as (EN2).

Now I set up the Static IP
System Preferences -> Network -> Airport -> Advanced -> TCP/IP

Configure IPv4 is set to Manual.
I change only the IPv4 address to 10.0.1.210.
Subnet Mask remains the same (255.255.255.0).
Router remains the same (10.0.1.1).

Then..
System Preferences -> Network -> Airport -> Advanced -> DNS

I enter in the DNS Servers. The addresses for the DNS servers I found.
They were located in the AirPort Utility. It's likely I could have done this wrong or that those numbers aren't right. This is one of my unknowns.

My references. I needed a lot of help.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=899163
http://forum.portforward.com/YaBB.cgi?board=Knowledge;action=display;num=1118866030

Afterward I set up Port Mapping

The static IP I setup was 10.0.1.210.
Macintosh HD -> Applications ->Utilities -> Airport Utility

I select the Device and continue with setup..

AEBS -> Manual Setup -> Advanced -> Port Mapping -> Add..

Port Mapping Setup Assistance pops up.
Nothing could go wrong here right?

Public UDP: 30000
Public TCP:
Private IP: 10.0.1.210
Private UDP: 30000
Private TCP:

I leave TCP blank.

I just followed these instructions. Simple Enough.
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Apple/AirPortExtreme/Xlink_Kai.htm
http://www.blueskyis.com/bittorrent/airportforwarding.php

..

That was the technical stuff. I read somewhere to test the port.
I don't know if that's necessary since Kaiengine tells me if i'm reachable or not.

The links I used are mostly picture guided. The paths "?->?->?" are all the same. Just like the ones the original authors have used.

Setup for Kaiengine is easy. Fill in 30000 for port and deep port. Don't enable check-box for Pat. Already a lot of great walkthroughs for Kaiengine.

Different guides for setting up Static IP use numbers like
10.0.1.### or 192.168.2.#.
I am assuming I'll be sticking to the 10.0.1.#. Only the last digit is being manipulated. I know at least that much from the research.
Isn't great? I'm learning.

..
Clearly, What I used to know about computers just isn't enough.

But before the HUNDREDS of helpful replies start pouring in; I'd just like to thank anyone who took the time to read to as far as here.

Thank you for trying.

You've obviously learned a lot, the only problem I see is that you changed the deep port, that should stay as zero.

A quick way to test if the DNS servers you are using are correct is to set your main adapter to use them; and if your internet still works, they're OK.

Thanks again, CrunchBite!

I'm there!

I changed the deep port back to zero and then refreshed the Kaiengine.
Now it recognizes the PSP in Found Devices and it says that I am Reachable.

Thanks again! You've been extremely helpful!

..

The deep port change to 30000 was from these instructions:
http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34952

I'd thought i'd just mention that for anyone's furture reference.

That's great that you got it working. Thanks for pointing out the error in that tutorial, I've fixed it. Very Happy
