i really dont know what to look for when building a computer. im gonna get a monitor so i might as well buy it from work and get my discount and get a package with the monitor and an all in one printer but friend who works in computers at work says windows 7 can run on a 1 gb computer. but the question is, can a pentium 4 handle windows 7...

I have 2 pc`s running Win 7. One of them is a duel core athlon with 1GB of Ram, it runs win 7 ok, slighly laggy sometimes but better then vista with 1GB of ram.

If you're a student (or have access to a .edu email address) you can get a full retail upgrade copy of Home Premium or Professional for $30..

As long as you can get the email that they send to that address, I don't think they care...

yeah i still have my email until January.

What if they happen to ask for my enrollment proof? be like uhh...i got my degree lol? or be like oh you got me! ok ill pay?

my pc isnt upgradeable. i ran the system check thingy and i need to custom install, which by their definition, full OS partition erase, or maybe full HDD erase. it would be good for my PC tho.

im just worried that it wont run smooth. its a pentium 4 2.7ghz and 1.5gb ram.
the main things that failed in the system test was my video card

I really don't think they care. A custom install does not mean that you have to erase your system partition, but you do have to reinstall all of your programs and copy over all of your saved stuff. It'll rename your old Windows directory to Windows.old.

I think it would run fine on that - the ram is the most important thing and 1.5gb is pretty decent. If the video card is too old I think it means you won't be able to run the new "aero" skin on the user interface.

yeah that what the checker said. but i just got this card last year. the nvidia dash board or whatever came with the card i installed will work. it just said my graphics adapter wont support areo.

im still thinking that getting a new computer would be the best bet. mine is 5 yrs old.
