Okay guys I need some help
I am able to get on Xlink Kai just fine, but my friend is having trouble with detecting his console on Kai. He was using his Realtek RTL8187SE PCI-e card on his laptop, which after checking the compatible cards on the wiki, was not listed there, even though the wireless card connected to the PSP over
Ad Hoc.
Supported card and adapter listing
http://teamxlink.co.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=evo7:compspscards
After finding out that his card was not listed, I noticed that the Nintendo USB connector was, and that it being in bold suggested that it was commonly used by many. Being that I already had the connector, I let my friend use that since I am ordering a Planex adapter soon so we can play on Kai. He is using Win XP SP2.
I followed the instructions at afterdawn forums to setup the modded buffalo drivers and such, which is successfully completed, but after those steps, in regards to setting up the ASUS Utilities to work with the connector we are stuck. The instructions in the modded drivers are meant to get the PSP and DS on Infrastructure/Access Point mode. On the ASUS utility it shows that you can select Infrastructure or Ad Hoc mode from there which we did, but after assigning a static IP of 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0 to the Buffalo adapter, it connected to the PSP in Ad Hoc mode, but yet Kai cannot detect the PSP. Also, he mentions that the Wireless Connection(Buffalo adapter/Nintendo WiFi Connector) is fluctuating from connected -> not connected and vice versa and is not stable.
Can anyone create a specific guide to setting up the Nintendo WiFi Connector to be used specifically with the PSP for Xlink Kai? It seems doable but I feel that I am messing up somewhere:(
Also, does the ASUS utility really have to be in SoftAP mode to get the PSP to work with Xlink Kai? I assume not, being that most wireless utilities are in station mode to operate under Ad Hoc networks, but am not sure nevertheless.
Thanks in advance |

Narolf, so you are saying that i should replace the Buffalo drivers with the Belkin drivers you provided a link to? If so, then would the Nintendo Wifi Connector still work properly or not? This is quite confusing for me sorry:(
Also, the first link above is a link to replying not to where you are trying to point me to |

Copy/paste of my links were a little bit messed. I edited my message.
Basically, your friends has to try the first method in the first link I previously gave.
If he gets the Psp Xlink Mode, then he is done.
If he does not get it, he will have to update its driver with the Ralink ones by following the Belkin's guide. |

Ok thanks Narolf, I will post back the results later today
EDIT: Also, I know for sure that the Buffalo adapter does not have a Xlink Mode in its properties in Device Manager. I asked him to list that several times and he never mentioned that, so should I go on and use the Belkin F5D... one instead? |

Like I already said it twice, yes.
He uninstalls Buffalo's drivers and uses the Ralink's ones instead by following the guide. |

Narolf, I tried to update the drivers to the Belkin ones from the link you provided, and when I try to update from Buffalo or even do a clean driver installation, and I select rt75.inf file to use, I get an error saying that "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware", which basically means the Belkin drivers are not compatible with the Nintendo USB connector. I dont understand why this happening, any advice? |

The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector is a rebranded Buffalo WLI-U2-KG54-AI,[2] which is based on the Ralink RT2570 chipset and as such is different from most other Wi-Fi adapters in that it can operate as a software access point (also referred to as a soft AP). |
Weird, it should work.
Did you try the rusb2500.inf or something like that instead of Rt73.inf? |

Yes I tried doing it with both rt2500usb.inf and rt75.inf files from the Belkin drivers listed on the Belkin F5D7050 Guide on the Xlink Kai wiki when asked to browse for the INF file to use to install the new device. It stated that error on both INF files.
I also tried by installing the Buffalo drivers again, and tried to do a update driver command, but it still popped up that error |

Ok so i ran the setup files and it completed installation. What now? I tried to add the nintendo wifi connector as a new device and tried to use the Ralink drivers, but there are many drivers listed and am not sure which one to choose. I also had a Planex driver for the PCI-Mini2 in the list so I selected that but it showed up as an error "Device cannot start(code 10)" |

Once and for all, did you complete the installation or not?
You do not have to add your Nintendo Wifi connector as a new device(which basically means you are trying to install it manually) if the .exe I gave already did the installation for you.
And as I already said it dozen of times yet, you just have to enable the Psp Xlink Mode now:
http://teamxlink.co.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=evo7:how_to_tell_if_you_adapter_will_work_on_xlinkkai
On a side note, do you know where those Planex's drivers were coming from? |

Yes the installation is complete, but the adapter is still showing up as "Nintendo Wifi Connector" in device manager. I have no clue why really, when adding new hardware should I just tell it to search automatically for drivers already in the computer? Be it that they were installed from the setup.exe file you provided in the link?
I could only assume that the installer provided the Planex drivers, one being the Mini2 drivers which strikes me as odd, because my friend's laptop never had a Planex adapter installed so where it came from really only leads to it showing up from the installer. |

But does it really matter?
Does the fact that the device manager recognizes it as "Nintendo Wifi Connector" prevent you to use it like any other adapter? Can you access the advanced tab to see if the Psp Xlink Mode is in, at least? |

As far as I can tell, Narolf has yet to provide any helpful information. >> I found this thread because I'm having the same issue with the nintendo wifi usb adapter; I've followed all the instructions on converting it to an access point and that worked fine, but I've been unable to get it to work with xlink. I was hoping the responses would be helpful but after testing everything that's been suggested, I've come to the same difficulties as the OP each time, and it's starting to seem like Narolf actually has no idea what he's talking about, and is trying to guess at how to remedy the situation. >> Just installing drivers (such as the belkin drivers, or the Ralink WLAN ones) that aren't compatible with the adapter isn't going to help anything by itself. I find myself now with a mess of LAN utilities I don't want or need messing with my connections, and a bunch of drivers that haven't helped anything taking up space on my hard drive. Anyway, I'm still looking, but I'll post again if I find something that works. Otherwise I hope someone who's actually done this before happens by. |

And besides complaining, did you try the previously drivers I just gave?
I do not own every single adapter in the list by myself hence I could not have tried it. But according to this site (http://linux-wless.passys.nl/), this adapter and Ralink's chipset and the Psp Xlink Mode furthermore: that is why I tried to help MistPhonex step by step because I was not sure which rt had been made for this in special.
On a side note, thanks for your compliments. |

I checked under device manager, the properties of the Nintendo WiFi USB Connector after being plugged in and self installed. The properties do not list PSP Xlink Mode or any sort in there. I will keep trying to figure this out when I can go to my friends house and see if I can remedy it. I will post back a solution if all goes well |

All I've been able to find since my last post, is that the japanese drivers for the Buffalo WLI-U2-KG54-AI (which the wifi adapter is a modified version of) are the only ones to support XLink mode--US/English drivers won't have it. (Assuming what I read was accurate.) Unfortunately the Buffalo WLI-U2-KG54-AI drivers I have the Nintendo WiFi adapter using are modded to work for the device, from the US drivers apparently, at least as far as I can tell (since it lacks the XLink option), and the japanese drivers I downloaded for the official hardware do not work the way they are. I wish I knew enough to make that information useful, but..maybe someone can figure something out from that? |
