Xlink Kai Engine has stopped working

Every single time I try to open "Configure Kai" or "Start Kai", a window pops up and goes "Xlink Kai Engine has stopped working". I've been following the guide on http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39586, but now have no idea. The compatibility settings have been messed with, and it's been uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times to no effect.
