How to connect a wired 3.55 ps3 and windows xp pc with xlink

Guide for connecting a ps3 to xlink

here is my set up:

i have a ps3 (CFW 3.55)
i have a triple boot PC (windows xp, windows 7 and ubuntu 10) windows xp used
xlink 7.4.2.2
a netgear wireless router
2 lan cables

PC setup:

so you will need to do this first - go to xlink and download version 7.4.2.2
if you dont have an account, sign up for one
once completed, install xlink
once completed (windows xp just go to config kai, windows 7 may need the permissions elevated to admin and compatible to windows xp sp3 or 2 to work) then configure kai

Kai settings:

launch UI checked
character set to system default
kai port 30000
kai deep port 0
pssdk checked
xlink username and password entered
auto login checked
network adapter (select your lan connection)
auto open chat checked

close and next step

Router settings:

ensure both the ps3 and pc are connected to the router by 2 different lan ports. on my router the pc is in port 2 and the ps3 in port 3

type in your router ip (192.168.1.1) in your pc browser and go to the port forwarding field
forward ports 30000 to 35000

ps3 settings:

got to network settings and select Internet Connection Settings
select custom
wired
auto-detect
ip address auto
dhcp do not set
dns manual
primary dns 192.168.1.1 (your router ip address)
secondary dns 0.0.0.0
mtu auto
proxy do not use
upnp enable
save and test your connection
ip should succeed and internet should fail

finalizing:

so, you will now need to do the following:

shut down the ps3
turn on xlink on the pc
switch to arena mode (globe)
find the arena of the game you want to play
find out if anyone has a game going on that you can join
turn on the ps3
find the game you want to play
go to the lan option
search for the game to see if you can find it (you may need to refresh and depending on your internet speed and lag, you may need to wait a bit to see the game)
