Yeah Halo must have a very shitty netcode as R63 runs really smooth but I have noticed some lag from time to time on that game also especially when someones ping, or mine, hits over 350.
Just FYI I prefer XLink Kai over XBC anyway and always will. The people on the Kai network are more socialable and easier to get along with than most of the jerks on XBC.
Hopefully the new Halo2 will have a better netcode than the old version. |
heheh, yeah i think it will, they've had some time to revamp it all...
but yes, thats exactly what i am saying, games like r6-3 are much better made to deal with high ping fluctuations.
so, i am glad you see what i am saying |

Well is there anything else I can do to help things out on my end?
Can I input some numbers in the porting area of Kai that will help out?
Thanks |

nah, most of the problems we already know about, and TD is on them (fixing them). you can read the pinned topics and try to help others tho
we'll be up running 110% soon |

So if netcode used in a game is for any kind of network play, something is up on my xbox, because I was playing Topspin against a guy in Spain, we pinged around 160 to each other. He hosted, then I hosted. Both times he said his game was virtually lage free, my game however had a good quarter to half second response time (I checked it, if I didn't hit the button BEFORE I heard his hit, my guy would not respond in time, even if the ball was comming right at me) also in PGR2 I asked everyone else in the room if the game felt slow, it didn't jump around like crazy or anything but it felt like I was driving through molasses (yes it was a fast car) and it had a tinge of slowdown in the framerate also, and in Rallisport 2 even when I am pinging (yes I know it's not THAT big a deal, but RSC2 has live support so....) 50 or less I still often get cars that jump around like crazy when I get close and I end up on top of them often. The fact tht I end up on top of them almost every time tells me that something is wrong, as if it was just a network problem, we would end up splitting the far worse result of being on top.
I am not sure if this is even on topic still but something seems amiss, mayb e fixed in the update, but no one else seemed to have this problem. Are there any diagnostic commands we can run to see if there is a slowdown in the system somewhere? |

in games that have live AND system link, the net code is usually almost identical, minus the live specific stuff. whereas games like halo that never had live, have horrible netcode |
So this means essentially that any game that has link AND live capabilities are going to behave inherently better on kai?
If so I think I'll see if I can persuade some players out of Halo and into Unreal! |

i've never played top spin on live ... i tried on every tunneling programs and netcode seems to me like crap, i hope live don't behave like tunneling programs otherwise i think top spin itself is crap!
The quote is only to let you know that topspin comes out after Live ... so i wouldn't belive that Live code is identical to the syslink one !

to make things even rougher, the netcode in xsn games is a bit less forgiving, most of them have ping limits...
I bet you wont be able to play a game of links with someone with a ping over 80. |

I would definitely have to agree with that.... anyways... to give you guys another ping example... I'm a UK PAL Halo player with a modded box, and I do have the NTSC Halo version as well.
This gives me the possibility to play with American players instead of the regular European ones (that is, if I don't get kicked, because my ping will almost always be above 100-120).
And I've had many enjoyable games so far, I have to agree, It's not like LAN, but this is the internet... it'll never be like LAN.
It's time for Internet v2. |

Thanks Porsj for posting as that brings me to another question about getting kicked.
Last night I was someone on Halo and everything seem all good and well, no lag, (whooohoooo), the game was smooth all of a sudden BAM! the other player got kicked.
Can anyone tell me why this happened as it has happened more than once when I was hosting and also I got kicked when someone else was hosting.
Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, before I forget, great work TeamXlink on your updates as it helped out tremendously on the lag, but more than 3-4 people playing at once is still almost out of the question.
Thanks, |

Thanks apache_1,
We're constantly reviewing arena performance for bandwidth intensive games like Halo - more updates will appear in the future which will further enhance things. The [IXS] boys know just about everything about Halo - so we're gonna do some testing with them over the weekend.

Excellent jobs guys on getting right to the problem and getting it fixed fast. I am sure I speak for most if not all the Halo fans out there when I say "Thanks for all your support and concerns regarding Kai" |

That's called a lag boot. It can have various causes, either someone's connection failed, which made him 'lag out', could be that one of the players in game lost the orb connection to Kai, or it could just be that someone didn't like losing or winning and just turned off his xbox (or a power failure).
If you get a lag boot, you might consider yourself lucky, because usually the game will hang and you'll get a network error. |
