Yeah Halo must have a very shitty netcode as R63 runs really smooth but I have noticed some lag from time to time on that game also especially when someones ping, or mine, hits over 350.
Just FYI I prefer XLink Kai over XBC anyway and always will. The people on the Kai network are more socialable and easier to get along with than most of the jerks on XBC.
Hopefully the new Halo2 will have a better netcode than the old version. |
I think the new halo2 will have much improved netcode as it supports Live, and with the given popularity halo has had with sys link, i highly doubt that will be removed
(i know of at least 10 major college's in california who hold major weekly allnighter halo tourny's with like 50-100 attendee's)
Hope this helps,
AmO
P.S. - What i would love to see, is a game promote Xlink, and have special features for system link play, if a developer did that, wow, i think xlink popularity would skyrocket. I think what it suffers from most is the fact that people just dont know things like this are possible...my 2 cents...peace |

Halo 2 will have a lot less lag because Halo wasn't meant for online play and that is why there is alot of lag. |

BTW I think it is cool beans that this program is available...for my halo needs...
Anywho, I was reading about the LAG issue, and some might be the software, but some might be the setup or network or internet connection.
Are there any options to see if the bottleneck is at my end, or if it is on the internet?
Like a screen that shows the connection speed and IP address and that kind of thing? (ok, I have only had this program running for a few hours, so if the answer is obvious...don't flame me)
Thanks |

bubba go to http://www.dslreports.com/stest
it will tell you your upload speed and download speed
there are other tests you can do on the website too like a ping test
ping isnt that important like jmel said but remember playing on another host will guarantee some bullet lag (where you must lead your target farther ahead of the direction their are heading than you usually would)
but if your game is consistently choppy even on a low ping game (under 40 ping) then perhaps you should check here www.xbchelp.com and check your firewall and router settings
other than that just practice halo that helps too.
getting a fiberoptic line doesnt hurt either
if you need any help just send me a private message
xlink is way better than xbc, too many flaming noobs who think they know what they are talking about when they really have their heads up their /-\ $$3s and play gametypes like race or ctf BG with no flag at home to score l337 n00b $ 7 /-\ 7 |_| $.
keep it cool like maskandrobem would

Oh yea, I know all about testing my network, and connection etc.
I am wondering if within xlink, or Halo, there is a menu with the ping, ip address etc.
I can get that info on the PC playing various online games.
...besides, I don't have a web browser for my xbox...yet...
Yes the lag is unbelieveable...it actuall stops for a few seconds...hilarity ensues.
BTW I have a cable modem setup with 2700 down and 315 up. I am using IPCOP as router, and am only forwarding port 34516. |
