Hi all! I'm relatively new to XLink Kai, and I'm trying to install a new skin but nothing seems to be working. When I type "/skins" in the chat box, nothing happens as far as I can tell. I've also tried installing a skin manually using the instructions here: https://github.com/rafaeluzzi/carbonkai. This doesn't seem to have any effect either. Also, when I manually update my kaiUserConfig.txt, it is overwritten every time I start up the engine. What am I getting wrong here? :'(

For reference, I'm using XLink Kai 7.4.33 on Raspberry Pi.

That's kind of what I had figured. Is there any other way to customize the XLink Kai experience. I'm trying to set up my Raspberry Pi to run KaiEngine and use a small touchscreen to select which game arena I want to be in. The current UI is completely unusable on a touch device. I have experience in web development and software development, so I should be able to customize the UI in a reasonable fashion once I get the right direction.

Should I downgrade to 7.4.31 or is there some other UI out there to use/modify?

Thanks!

Hi,

I can understand the frustration and completely agree that the UI needs some love on mobile devices. I have over time tried cleaning up things but due to a full-time job, a relationship and other activities I've never been able to finish a fully working responsive UI.

My latest go at it is a lot better than my previous attempt but I sadly don't have the time to commit to it. A short-term solution might be to introduce hooks that you can use but that would require a minor engine update to enable custom functionality which isn't too difficult.

I will investigate this avenue tonight as it would give end-users such as yourself the ability to do the following:

  • Dynamically load in additional CSS, JavaScript and Images
  • Run additional functionality on a lot of common engine commands

I will keep this thread updated.

Hi SgtLegend! It's good to hear from you.

Is there a Github repository or something that I could contribute to? I wouldn't mind contributing some of my time to make the UI responsive.
