OK, I don't understand why Kai in XBMC is actually a good thing. You can't play games without running Kai on a PC, right? Once the game loads, XBMC is gone from memory so it no longer runs Kai. Is it so you can have two Xboxes? One with Kai, and one with the game? I don't really get it. |

if your PC isn't right beside you then you have the problem of actually getting off your ass and running upstairs to change arenas etc. likewise if you run kaiStation on a wireless router then you need a UI to manage things with, it might as well be the xbox. should you see your friend sign in while you're watching a movie, listening to some music, etc. then you can setup a game with just a couple of clicks.
in a nutshell the kaiengine is a server running on a device (PC or router) which is typically left on always running, but the user-interface is right where you want to be (i.e. in front of your XBOX) if you plan on playing a game. |

if you have a modded xbox, i suggest you get xbmc, (the only reason I modded mine) this program is the best, and I cant live without it.
I also have kai running on my router, so I dont even need my pc on, and u control everything within xbmc, it saves time, easier, and u dont need to get off the couch |

yeah i have XBMC and it is indeed completely and utterly wonderful. that's why i was asking - i didn't see why such an awesome program would have such a (seemingly) useless feature.
i'm gonna give it a shot tonight though! |

well i tried it out and it's pretty good although it would be nice to be able to sort arenas by ping time (to put the lowest ping ones up front).
the main thing is i last night i was moving between arenas a lot, trying to find a decent match, and constantly getting up to reboot the xbox to do that would be a problem. i wound up running the kai UI on my laptop and keeping that next to me while i played the game on the xbox.
i suppose once i find an arena that i'm in a lot of the time that it would be more convenient. |

yeah, The best part is, put the engine as one of your startup programs, and let it run when you boot windows. I love when am watching a movie and it the little box pops up to let me know that one of my friends is available to get their face shot! U can't put a price on that. |

I use Kai on the linksys router, so I don't have an engine running on a seperate PC. XBMC is the only program I need to link up anymore. I still use Avalaunch to auto-update my XBMC to the latest version.

you don't have IGR ? man i just pull 4 buttons and i'm right back in XBMC , get a new bios :] |
LOL
Maybe he just doesn't know about it. Try pulling the two triggers and hit Start + Black or Start + Back, and see if it reboots.
If that doesn't work and you don't know how to get a new BIOS, you might wanna look into a hardware mod. I have an actual power switch built into my Xbox Memory Card. Couple that with a large hard drive so I don't need to swap discs all the time, and it all helps me make my arse grow by never having to walk over to the Xbox. |

yes. the chain is as follows in Avalaunch:
Settings --> Network --> Download -->
On the "Download" screen, you will see
1) Download xbox media center x.x.x (date) install
2) Download xbox media center x.x.x (date) update
3) Download Config Magic
4) Download Config Magic 1.6
5) Download DVD2Xbox 0.6.0
6) Download dvdx2
if you select the first one, it will download, unrar, and install a complete fresh package of xbox media center to E:\Apps\XBMC\. If you select the 2nd one, it will update default.xbe, and anything else listed in the changelog to the folder E:\Apps\XBMC\. I don't know if there is a way to get it to default to F:\Apps (where all my other apps are), but for now, I just leave the xbmc $home directory as E:\Apps\XBMC\ and everything works awesome. I get a new update as soon as a build is posted to xbins. (AFAIK this is where the DL's come from. Avalaunch has built in irc & ftp)

One of these days XBMC won't have to rely on you using AVA to update itself *wink* |

yes. when you use IGR, your entire xbox will reboot, causing you to lose connection of the game you were in...or not.
get it on your box, its creating fat-azzes everywhere |
