Seems like a lot of hosts i've chatted with have uncapped thier modems. Now, to me, thats great, because the game never lags.

I guess i was just wondering how many people have tried or done this? Also, how does your ISP not figure out all the bandwidth gettting sucked up.

Well of course not all ISP's care how much you download. Mine doesn't have a "download cap". I can download like oh i duno 100 gigs in a month, no phone call still have service ...

He He... the more bandwidth I use, the more calls I get to uprade my service to their 10mb service ..

well what i ment was, the rate at which you download or upload. For example, my ISP is around 256kbs upload and i think 3mb download. People uncap their modems to get like 1 mb upload speeds.

Of course it all depends on your modem and how your going to change it's settings...

Cogeco has a limit here, but I use Sympatico.

I wish I could get my upload rate higher... But I don't wanna risk losing these guys.

my Cogeco is limited at 5mb down 640kbs up...which is great for gaming...don't really need it higher

plus I don't think Sympatico is near that at all(not sure though?)

Okay, you misunderstood me.

Cogeco here has issues if you go above 10GB of upload and download combined in one month. They call people and tell them to stop or their service will be disconnected. It has happened to two of the three friends I have that use Cogeco here.

Sympatico, well, sure, the download speed is slower, but I can download 300GB a month if I wanted, with no penalty or threat of service disconnection.

I'd rather have a slow connection with a higher limit than a faster connection with a small limit. If you could download 10GB/sec with Cogeco, then what will you do with the other 2591999 seconds each month? Know what I'm saying?

Anyhow, my Sympatico is 3Mb/sec down, not sure what it is up. When I'm at work or somewhere downloading, I can usually get about 60KB/sec give or take, so whatever that converts to.

yep I misunderstood... Crying or Very sad

lol

your up is about probably about 500kbs-600kbs. I haven't had cogeco call me up at all, and my cap is 15 GB up/down combined, I've done atleast 60gb in the past 3 months so I guess I'm lucky I haven't gotten a call.

Where abouts are you ontario that they are calling people?

I've heard of this (ironically, it was the Comcast guy that told me how to do it, I believe). You can modify your cable or DSL modem and remove the cap so it runs on the fastest speed it possibly can, rather than the speed you're paying for. But if you get caught, it violates your contract and you get the mega-boot.

North Bay. My friend downloaded a few hundred GB for the first few months, and then one day he just couldn't connect anymore. He actually had to call Cogeco, and they told him that he should have been cut off a long time ago. Heh. It was funny.
