This image in the Quickstart guide on the homepage implies, to me, that I can plug my GC into my laptop, which is wirelessly connected to my router.

Have I got that right, or am I being dense?

Nice! Because my router is downstairs and my laptop is right next to my GameCube in my bedroom. All I need now is a broadband adapter.

Just another conformation, is this a standard crossover cable, that'll work in connecting my GC to the Network port on my laptop?

I'm curious as to how you set up the Wired NIC, is it ICS or a bridge that you set up? (also using a Cube)
I know how to make a bridge, just haven't worked with one yet.

Important Note: Setup F will only work for you if your wireless network card performs in promiscuous mode. Please read the section on Incompatible Wireless Network Cards below for more information.

don't forget about that... you have to check if your wireless card in your laptop supports prmiscuous mode, otherwise it will sure be a no go.
