Considering Kai enables the trafficing (sp?) of data between two Xboxes, would it be possible to transfer videos/pics/whatever between contacts via XBMC similar to the Netshare facility?
If you can ftp to your PC I'm thinking all you would need is the IP of your contact and the capability to set up a server with restrictions/allowances.
Then again, I'm no developer so its pure theoretical thinking |

It's actually a reasonable idea - if XBMC were coded to offer a local LAN filesharing option - which uses the proper syslink addressing (0.0.0.1) - then kai would work with it...
An interesting idea... for sure...

XBMC uses filezilla FTP server i know you can configure what addresses you want to allow access too, so you can set it up only for your internal network (e.g. 192.168.X.X) so you might be able to set it up for the 0.0.X.X addresses,
And associating Kai with file sharing would be a bad thing IMHO . And you can't share files while playing games, cuz the xbox doesn't run 2 things at the same time. |

Of course you arent going to share files whilst playing games.
What I'm thinking is, once this voice feature really takes off and you can speak to your mates before playing games, the option to send files (vids specifically) for some banter would be a good idea in my oppinion. I can imagine in the future where the only friends we have are online sitting watching a funny porno I've sent over xlink and discussing it with XBMC
I'm imagining there might be some problems with the RIAA, though, especially if music was shared. |

Well, of course nobody around here would consider sharing binarys. It would strictly be text files. |

I would've thought there's plenty of PC utils that would do this already though? |

But it's the novelty factor also...I like the idea of telling somebody about a cool halo frag movie I have, and instead of having to walk all the way to the pc I can just send it straight from the xbox.
My goal in my Xlink experience is to help you guys make it as lazy as possible. |

Oh hell man, walk to the pc, the exercise is good for the heart. LOL
But anyway thinking about it. Nice idea BUT, by doing so wouldnt that open up the xbox to possible virus's, trojans etc? Then if that is the scenerio then who is going to make a virus scanner to check the incoming files?
I think it would opening up a can of worms here.
Just thinking ahead of the possible recource this would have. And don't laugh cause it would eventually happen, sooner or later.
Just a thought. |

Apache 1 makes a point, but I don't think XBOX's are at risk to virus's like our pc's -- right? -- Cause i'm sure I've had a virus when I transfered something to the XBoX, but nothing on XBOX was damaged -- |

But the possbility remains that a hacker could send you a trojan horse that would get your ip address then exploit that.
If you know what I mean. |

As with computers, simply using common sense when accepting files will make sure you dont contract a (highly unlikely) virus. Besides, the contact you would be getting the file off would only be able to send you the file (theoretically) if you had accepted his notification in accordance with TD's plans to allow notifications in the next few updates.
The more Kai expands its capabilities the more it will be known for supplying the community with what they want. Why stop at Xbox games? Once they (optimistically speaking) get decent emulator netplay arenas working you should be able to transfer roms to people who have a different version than the one you're hosting (which would still be legal considering you own the original). This is just one of the efficient possiblities that would come with enabling file transfers between two consoles.
If you don't like the idea and it's implemented, don't use it. Simple as that. |

MMMMM, don't ever remember saying that I didn't like the idea. I was just pointing out possible future problems. And if you can't take constructive critism, then don't post!!
Yeah ok, lets start kai as another p2p program, which what you are saying in the previous post as, Why stop at Xbox games?
Yeah thats real smart, lets get the MPAA and RIAA involved. If they was going to do this I would say, keep it to the legal transferring files only. |

I wasnt talking about transfering games, I was questioning why stop at providing a service to play gamess in why not expand into an xbox media service.
Numpty.
"YEA TATS REEAL SMRT"
Quiet you moron, I understand the implications of the authorities getting involved. Sarcasm gets you nowhere fast. Obviously it'd be strictly for sharing legal files such as discontinued and public doman rom images, free movies and so forth. [/disclaimer] |

And flaming or name calling wont get you very far either. You should have made your post a little more clearer as to what you meant!
I am not going to reply back with a flame towards you as I refuse to bring myself down to your level.
And besides how would you take it if I posted--Why stop at Xbox games?--
That right there could mean a lot of things.
Man, do you have issues with critism or what? |

thats because it was designed to affect a pc not an xbox. apparently there have been viruses made to affect an xbox tho ive never seen one. lol if you can consider seeing one. |
