Installing XLink Kai

Follow the installation guide for your Operating System:

Network Configuration

Vita3k support in XLink Kai is still experimental and as such the setup process is a bit... bespoke.

Windows

These instructions are Windows 10 and Windows 11 specific. Older versions of windows should be similar.

Installing NPCAP

Due to licensing issues XLink Kai ships with WinPCAP which unfortunately is not compatible with loopback adapters. To solve this you will need to install NPCAP. Version 1.31 is known to be stable.

During installation the default options are fine, just keep clicking Next until finished.

Run kaiLoopbackBridge

kaiLoopbackBridge64 released with XLink Kai 7.4.45 does not have Vita3k support, please use this version in the meantime: https://cdn.teamxlink.co.uk/crunchbite/kaiLoopbackBridge64_v1.0.5.exe
  1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\XLink Kai\
  2. Find kaiLoopbackBridge64.exe, right click, Run as Administrator
  3. Read the warning, press any key to continue.
  4. Select PlayStation Vita as the emulator type
  5. The loopback adapter will now be configured automatically.
  6. Close kaiLoopbackBridge. We will use it again later.

Installing and Configuring Vita3k

Vita3k's setup is quite simple, read the quickstart guide to get set up. Once complete you must perform the additional steps below.

Additional configuration

  1. Once Vita3k is running enter the configuration by clicking Configuration at the top of the screen.
  2. Vita3k guide 2.png
  3. Click the Core tab
  4. Under Modules Mode check the box for Auto & Manual
  5. In the Modules List ensure adhoc_matching and np_matching2 are highlighted.
  6. Vita3k guide 3.png
  7. Click the Network tab
  8. In the Network Address drop-down box select the Microsoft KM-TEST Loopback Adapter who's IP address starts with 169.254
  9. Click Save & Close then exit Vita3k.

Playing a game on XLink Kai

Since Vita3k and XLink Kai are not able to communicate with each other directly (yet), kaiLoopbackBridge is used as a "bridge" between them.

  1. Start XLink Kai and log in
  2. Start kaiLoopbackBridge, select PlayStation Vita as the emulator type and keep it open the entire time you are playing. After a few seconds XLink Kai will see a PlayStation Vita console under the Metrics tab.
  3. Click Arenas at the top of the screen and navigate to the arena for the game you will be playing.
  4. Start Vita3k and start your game. Vita3k must not be running before you start kaiLoopbackBridge.
  5. Have fun!!

Finding players

If you are having trouble finding other players to game with please join our Discord chat and use the various console-specific channels. There are also several fan-run discords that host regular game nights.
